The 26th Breeders' Cup
World Championship Horse Racing
Santa Anita Park Nov. 6 - 7
The 26th Breeders' Cup is Now History!
Zenyatta Remains Undefeated in Beating the Boys!
It certainly was an exciting weekend of Championship racing with a good mix of favorites and longshots winning.
Zenyatta remaind UNDEFEATED in 14 career races as she BEAT the Boys in the Classic!
We saw the mare Zenyatta win with her powerful late move as she came from dead last and caught Gio Ponti in mid stretch to keep her record PERFECT!
She should be named horse of the year and of the DECADE. 20 years from now, we will be talking about her as being the Greatest Mare of ALL Time....
This was the 2nd consecutive year that the Breeders' Cup races were run over a synthetic surface. There were 2 repeat winners; Goldikova in the Mile and Conduit (IRE) in the Turf.
The powerful Godolphin Stable had 14 horses entered in 9 of the 14 Championship races. Of those 14 runners they only won 1 race (the Juvenile with Vale of York) as well as (4) 3rd and (2) 4th place finishers!
Of the 6 races run over the Santa Anita Turf course, (4) were won by the Europeans!
There were (7) Championship races run over the synthetic dirt surface with (3) California based winners and (2) Euro winners. The other (3) synthetic dirt races were won by U.S. based horses that had been racing over the synthetic surface at other tracks like Keenland and Turfway park!
The only exception was Tapitsfly who last raced in New York and is sired by a proven synthetic pedigree in Tapit.
Our Day 2 Breeders' Cup selections had (2) Winners on top with Pounced ($6.80) in the Juvenile Turf and Conduit ($3,80) our Best Bet in the Turf. Our Best Longshot Furthest Land ($44.60) won in the Dirt Mile.
We had (4) Exacta winners; Juvenile Turf ($62.00) (2 times), Turf Sprint ($75.20), Juvenile ($334.80) (2 times) and the Turf ($25.00). That is a total of $893.20 of winning $2 wagers!
Our selections had (2) Trifecta wagers hit with the Juvenile Turf (90.60) (2 times) and the Turf ($40.30) (2 times). we hit (2) Superfectas in the Juvenile Turf ($2,750.70) and the Turf ($67.30) for a total of $3,079.80 for $1 wagers!
We had (2) Daliy Doubles in the Juvenile ($224.60) and the Dirt Mile ($114.40) as well as (1) Pick 3 in the Classic ($360.30). That is another $699.30 in winning wagers.
TOTAL Day 2 winning wagers totaled $4,672.30 plus wagers on our (3) winners!
There was ONLY 1 winner in the Pick Six which paid $1,838,305.20 and that was with (3) winning favorites!!!
Day 2 of the Breeders' Cup had very good exotic payouts even with 5 favorites winning!
Race results for Day 2 of the Breeders' Cup Championship races are as follows;

On Day 1 of Breeders' Cup Weekend, NO favorite won any of the (6) races and ONLY (2) second favorites won! Europeans won (2) races. The Marathon and the Filly & Mare Turf.
The trainer (John Shireffs) of last year's Classic winner Zenyatta won it again with Life is Sweet ($18.20). It sure was a SWEET weekend for Shireffs!!
Jockey Julian Leparoux got his weekend off to a great strat winning 2 Breeders' Cup races on Day 1 with wins in the Juvenile Fillies and the Filly & Mare Sprint. He also won on Day 2 in the Dirt Mile.
The Frenchman is one of the BEST riders in the U.S. and will no doubt win the Eclipse Award this year!
Our Day 1 Selections: Of the (6) Breeders' Cup races we had (3) Winners in our Top 2 selections; Man of Iron ($14.80 - Marathon), She Be Wild ($16.80 - Juvenile Fillies) and Informed Decision ($8.80 - Filly & Mare Sprint).
Man of Iron was our Best Longshot in the Marathon hitting for $14.80 - $7.20 - $4.40 across-the-board!
Our wagering strategy allowed us to hit (3) Exactas; Marathon - $120.20, Filly & Mare Turf $53.60 (2 times-$107.20) and the Filly & Mare Sprint - $15.40 (3 times-$46.20).

The 25th Breeders' Cup
World Championship Horse Racing
Santa Anita Park Oct. 24 - 25
The 25th Breeders' Cup is Now History!
The Euro Invaders Proved Tuff to Beat ...
It certainly was an exciting weekend of Championship racing with a good mix of favorites and longshots winning.
We saw the undefeated Filly Zenyatta win with a powerful late move as she caught and passed the entire field at the top of the stretch to keep her record perfect!
Then there was the BC Classic as Curlin tried to repeat but found the Top 2 European invaders too much as he was upset and finished 4th. His loss should result in Zenatta being named 2008 horse of the year!
This was the first time the Breeders' Cup races were run over a synthetic surface. Santa Anita Park installed the Australian Pro-Ride surface this year. The first in the U.S.
The results are now in and the surface favored those horses who had previously raced well over the surface or had a history of training on synthetic dirt tracks!
It also favored horses coming from way off the pace and thus early speed horses faltered in the stretch! (the except was the Juvenile (the top 3 did have synthetic experience))
Since the Santa Anita Pro-Ride surface resembles Turf more than it does Dirt, the Europeans were able to upset Curlin in the Classic.
It looked like Curlin was going to win as he got the lead at the top of the stretch but he made his move too early and the 2 closing Europeans along with Tiago over took him for 1st, 2nd and 3rd!
Day 2 of the Breeders' Cup was very good as ONLY 1 favorite won with 2 Second Favorites also winning!
Since the Breeders' Cup will for the 1st time EVER hold the races at the same track for 2 consecutive years, we now know how to handicap the Pro-Ride surface which should lead us all to a very profitable weekend of Championship racing!
On Day 1 the 5 Championship races did not lead to any big surprises like got on Day 2, but we did get to see the BEST Filly in the World easily win the Ladies Classic (Distaff).
Zenyatta remaind UNDEFEATED in 9 career races!
She ran her normal race, taking back at the start and then lapping the field from the rear going 6 wide around them and passing the filed in stretch pulling away across the finish line!
It truely was a beautiful site to see and one that I will remember for many years to come.
We had a good Day 1 with our Breeders' Cup Picks.
In the 5 BC races we had 3 Winners on Top.
Ventura - $7.60, Maram - $24.20, Stardom Bound - $5.20 and Zenyatta - $3.00.
We had 3 Exactas - Race3 - $25.40, Race4 - $350.20, Race7 $13.40.
Two Trifectas, Race3 - $48.70, Race7 - $34.20.
One Superfecta, Race3 - $733.30.
Four Daily Doubles, Race4 - $133, Race5 - $84, Race7 - $19.40 and Race8 - $41.
One Pick3 - Race5 - $192.
3 Winners on Top out of 5 races - 3 out of 5 Exactas - 2 Trifecta - 1 Superfecta - 4 out of 5 Daily Doubles - 1 Pick3 = Total Won - $1,674.60!
Breeders' Cup 2007
World Championship Horse Racing
The 24th running of the two day Breeders' Cup World Championships is completed and now history.
The unfortunate part is that the weather man was not cooperative as
the 2 days of races were contested over a soggy Monmouth Park! It
rained from Wednesday through Saturday afternoon as the dirt track was
rated sloppy and the turf course as soft for the entire 2 days of
racing!
The
bad weather resulted in small on track crowds. For the biggest day,
Saturday, only 41,781 racing fans were on hand to witness 8 World
Championship races and the crowning of many probable Eclipse Award
winners! Last year at Churchill Downs there were 80,452 in attendance
... that is almost a 50% drop off!
The
bad weather and low attendance also resulted in a low handle in the
wagering. The total was $111,903,685 compared to last year when the
total was just under $140 Million dollars! ALL of this combined with 4
of the 8 races being won by favorites, we also got the LOWEST payoffs
in many, many years!
We
had a 100% increase in the number of favorites winning the Championship
races. Usually there are (2) winning favorites each year. This year we
had (4) with other favorites coming in 2nd (1) and 3rd (1)
... This is abnormal for the Breeders' Cup!
The
average $2 win prices were $11.55 compared to last year when it was
$24.50 and the average Exacta only paid $92 compared $300 last year.
The $1 Trifecta average a measly $312 compared $3,082 in 2006 and the
$1 Superfecta was even worst at $1,833 vs. last year's $38,184!
Unfortunately this is not uncommon when racing on a sloppy and soft
track. The next time you are at the track when it is rated sloppy, just
look to see how many favorites win and the top 3 favorites are
in-the-money. It happens a LOT.
The
However, the racing sure was exciting to watch. With Curlin winning
the featured $5 Million Classic by widening lengths over Hard Spun while Street
Sense was fading to 4th, to English Channel eaisly defeating the BEST
European, Dylan Thomas, to Baffert's Midnight Lute coming from last to
first to win the Sprint and given him (2) Breeders' Cup wins on the day!
Surprising on the day was that the Europeans did not win any of the
races! Not even the Turf races on the soft surface. The best they did
was a 2nd and a 3rd ..... on a wet and rainy day with soft turf,
they should have done much better!
As far as how our Picks went on Saturday, we had the Exacta in (4) races paying
$54.20, $25.20, $70.80 and $141.60 and hit (1) Trifecta for $243.00 for a $1
ticket.
We just missed both of the Pick 4s, hitting 3 of the 4
legs in each one. The Pick 4s paid $1,032.80 and $1,536.40.
